Attorney Benjamin B. Peterson is the owner and founder of Peterson Legal Counsel PLC. He graduated from the University of St. Thomas magna cum laude with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Behavioral Neuroscience, and graduated from the University of St. Thomas School of Law. Ben is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Minnesota.

Before attending law school, Ben served the residents of Minnesota in the law enforcement field for multiple years on both the city and county level. He also trained in boating law enforcement and served on the water patrol unit of a Twin Cities metropolitan county. This has given Ben a unique perspective on the legal and criminal justice system, having worked with diverse groups and individuals and successfully resolving conflict in street-level situations. He is one of a small group of attorneys in Minnesota with real world law enforcement experience.

While in law school, Ben clerked for a major civil litigation law firm in Duluth, Minnesota, prosecuted quality of life crimes in Ramsey County District Court as a Certified Student Attorney, and worked in local government administration for a Twin Cities first-ring suburb. He was also selected to serve in the University of St. Thomas Interprofessional Center for Counseling and Legal Services, where he worked collaboratively with psychologists, social workers, and attorneys in the Elder Law Practice Group.

Ben also has a passion for community service. He currently serves as Chair of the Golden Valley Police Civil Service Commission, where he leads oversight responsibilities for employment and human resource matters in the Police Department including hiring, promotion, suspension, and termination. Ben also serves on a local nonprofit endowment board of directors.

Ben is an active member of the American Bar Association,  Minnesota State Bar Association, and the Hennepin County Bar Association.
